Production has wrapped on the Branded to Film (B2F) production Doom Boogie in Kingston, Ont.
The film marks executive producer George Assimakopoulos’ (Orphan Black) directorial debut. It is written and executive produced by J. Joly (Den Mother Crimson). The other executive producers are Neil Chakravarti and Brian Wideen (Wolfcop).
Doom Boogie stars musicians Hanorah Hanley (pictured), Ciara Roberts and Jonas Lewis-Anthony, as well as actors Tiffany Dianne Branton and Reece Presley. The film focuses on a former band reuniting at a cottage getaway, where they must face a hostile stranger.
The film is currently in post-production with its festival premiere and world sales push slated for winter 2025.
B2F, a prodco founded by CEO Joly, COO Assimakopoulos and CFO Wideen, plans to train and grow a local workforce in Kingston, where it is based.
The film was shot entirely in Kingston over 15 days, with more than 85% local cast and crew.
“We are blessed with Kingston’s amazing local talent – both in front and behind the camera – and are closer than ever to delivering a 100% hyperlocal production,” said Joly in a statement. “This project taps into Kingston’s legendary music scene to deliver an original feature film representing the incredible potential of a city I like to call the Austin of Canada.”
As part of the company’s commitment to mentorship, Mark Alleyne (Code 8) is on board as a first-time producer. He has previously worked as a line producer and location manager.
The film follows B2F’s inaugural production Den Mother Crimson, the first $1 million feature film developed, produced and delivered in Kingston, according to the release.
