Michelle Harrison and Jewel Staite were recognized for their lead performances in a film and series, respectively, at the 13th annual UBCP/ACTRA Awards in Vancouver.
The peer-adjudicated awards program from UBCP/ACTRA, the autonomous branch of performers’ union ACTRA in B.C., were handed out at the Commodore Ballroom on Saturday (Nov. 23).
Staite won in the series category for Global’s Family Law (Lark Productions, SEVEN24 Films), while Harrison was recognized for her work in the Canadian film Re: Uniting (Flat/Head Films), directed by Laura Adkin.
The other six winners include Priscilla Faia, who won Best Supporting Performance – Motion Picture for Terry Miles’ Calamity Jane (Enlighten Content) while Kandyse McClure took home the television counterpart for her performance on Netflix’s Virgin River (Reel World Management).
Faith Wright won Best Performance in a made for TV film with Lifetime’s Buying Back My Daughter (Front Street Pictures).
Garfield Wilson took home Best Short Performance for Jess McLeod’s DTF? and Brian Drummond won Best Voice Performance for Netflix’s Sonic Prime.
Best Stunt Performance was awarded to stunt coordinators Lauro Chartrand-Del Valle and Sharlène Royer, along with stunt performers Janene Carleton, Jordan Davis, Simon Pidgeon, Matthew Phillips and Quentin Schneider, for their work on the Vancouver-shot CBS series Tracker.
Lastly, the John Juliani Award of Excellence was presented to John Cassini for his contributions as a performer and industry accomplishments.
