Production is underway in Toronto on the Netflix thriller Wayward.
Principal photography on the eight-part limited series, formerly known as Tall Pines, will continue into October.
Wayward is produced by Sphere Media and is created by Toronto-born comedian Mae Martin (pictured right), who serves as co-showrunner and executive producer with Ryan Scott (Servant).
Martin also stars in the series, with a cast that includes Canadian actors Sarah Gadon (pictured middle), Brandon Jay McLaren, Patrick J. Adams, Joshua Close and Patrick Gallagher. Additional stars in the series are Oscar-nominated Australian actor Toni Collette (pictured left) and U.S. actors Sydney Topliffe and Alyvia Alyn Lind.
Wayward is a generational drama that explores the insidious side of the troubled teen industry in a scenic, yet sinister town.
Executive producers include Sphere’s Jennifer Kawaja and Bruno Dubé, and Ben Farrell and Hannah Mackay from U.K.-based prodco Objective Fiction.
Welsh director Euros Lyn (Heartstopper) is an EP on the series, in addition to directing the first and last two episodes. Other directors on Wayward are Canada’s Renuka Jeyapalan (Son of a Critch) and John Fawcett (Sight Unseen).
Wayward was first announced last April as one of Netflix’s original Canadian commissions, with Martin saying at the time it was a story they had “been dying to tell for years.”
