The indie horror flick was coproduced by Vancouver's Oddfellows Entertainment and distributed by Elevation Pictures in Canada.

The horror flick Longlegs, coproduced by Vancouver’s Oddfellows Pictures, earned US$25.7 million (about C$35 million) this weekend globally.

In Canada the film brought in $1,568,052, finishing third at the Canadian box office behind the animated films Despicable Me 4 ($3.5 million) and Inside Out 2 ($1.6 million), according to distributor Elevation Pictures. The film landed in the No. 2 slot in North America over the weekend.

Longlegs hails from writer-director Osgood Perkins (I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House) and stars Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe. The film follows an FBI agent (Monroe) in pursuit of a serial killer, who uncovers a series of occult clues that she must solve to end his terrifying killing spree.

Filmed in Vancouver, Longlegs is distributed by Elevation in Canada and Neon in the U.S. and other territories. The film is the sixth-highest opening in Elevation’s history, and the biggest ever for U.S. studio and distributor Neon.

Oddfellows Pictures (Little Fish), helmed by Chris Ferguson, coproduced the film in collaboration with C2 Motion Picture Group, Range Media Partners and Traffic.

“Oz Perkins is a singular creative visionary and we are honoured to be making films with him. The cultural impact he’s making with Longlegs goes beyond what any of us could have imagined,” said Ferguson in a statement. “Elevation and Neon have been the perfect partners to release this film with. They’ve astonished us with their savvy and mastery of the material every day on this campaign and the impact is reflected in the box office success and audience reactions.”

Oddfellows has two more Perkins films releasing with Elevation and Neon in the works: the Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, starring Theo James, and Keeper, starring Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland.

Producers on the horror film include Ferguson, Dave Caplan, Dan Kagan, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones.

Co-executive producers include Canadians Giuliana Bertuzzi, Andrew Levine and Laura Wheeler. Oddfellows’ Marlaina Mah is a co-producer.

Executive producers are Neon’s Tom Quinn, Jason Wald and Christian Parkes; Jason Cloth, Andrea Bucko, Ronnie Exley, Lawrence Minicone, Sean Krajewski from Rabbits Back; David Gendron, Liz Destro, Destro Films, Teddy Schwarzman and Laura Austin-Little from Black Bear; John Friedberg, Jesse Savath from Oddfellows; and Fred Berger.
