Vancouver-based prodco Big Time Decent Productions has launched a scripted division in addition to expanding its unscripted slate.
The new division, Bread & Better Films, will focus on developing and producing feature films and scripted series. The new arm is launched in partnership with Big Time Decent’s head of development, René Brar, and VP unscripted, Jeffrey Kinnon. The company has hired industry veteran Robert Vroom (Blood Quantum) as producer, and writer-producer-actor Juliana Wimbles (The Good Doctor) as development producer to support the scripted slate. Wimbles has written six features for the Hallmark Channel.
“Our team has deep roots in the scripted world, and we look forward to expanding that side of the business and building a robust scripted slate together,” said Brar in a statement.
Big Time Decent Productions is also diversifying its unscripted offerings, producing a feature documentary that will take part in a festival run in the fall, as well as their first Imax nature documentary, targeting a 2025 distribution. Following up the success of their show Rust Valley Restorers, the prodco is adding more automotive driven content via YouTube channels, including Rust Bros and Wildman Garage, among others. Together these channels have accumulated over 100 million views across platforms in the first half of 2024, according to a news release.
As part of its unscripted content, the company is currently in production on the docuseries Underdog Inc., which has been greenlit by AMI. The series tracks the life of Dale Kristensen, a little person raising a child while running a trucking business in small town B.C.
Big Time Decent is also working on docuseries with Corus Entertainment and Bell Media. The company has had a fourth docuseries recently greenlit by a Canadian broadcaster, with a formal announcement coming soon.
In addition, the prodco has signed with Verve Talent and Literary Agency in L.A., which will help the company expand its U.S. footprint and package projects with A-list talent, according to Matthew Shewchuk, Big Time Decent’s founder and head of production.
