Veteran producer Robert Vroom joins NFB’s eastern doc units

The Montreal-based producer will work to strengthen English-language non-fiction storytelling across Quebec.

Robert Vroom has joined the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) as a producer with its Eastern Documentary Unit.

The appointment was announced by NFB executive producer Nathalie Cloutier Monday (Oct. 21). According to a release, the Montreal-based producer will work with anglophone directors and co-producers in the Montreal region and across Quebec to strengthen English-language non-fiction storytelling.

Vroom has more than 25 years of experience in the film and TV sector, including forming his own prodco in Montreal in 2012, Vroom Productions.

His previous production credits include Pat Kiely’s Three Night Stand and Another Kind of Wedding, Jeff Barnaby’s Blood Quantum and Sarah Watts and Mark Slutsky’s You Can Live Forever.

He has also worked as a cinematographer on several productions, including Tastemade Studios’ documentary feature Funke and the docuseries The Beat. He served as a director on 13 episodes of Paperny Films’ Carver Kings.

Prior to his new full-time role with NFB, Vroom was hired by Vancouver-based prodco Big Time Decent Productions in June as a producer for its new scripted division, Bread & Better Films.
