Wattpad Webtoon promotes Jason Goldberg to head of global film

Alessandra Ferreri has been elevated to VP of content in a number of other promotions at the Toronto and L.A. company.

Wattpad Webtoon Studios has named Jason Goldberg as its head of global film in a string of promotions across the Toronto and L.A.-based studio.

Goldberg will lead production and expansion of the studio’s film slate in the North American and international markets, according to a news release. He reports to David Madden, head of global entertainment, and is based in L.A.

Goldberg’s previous roles include VP of scripted film and TV at L.A.-based studio Gunpowder & Sky, where he oversaw scripted development and managed the company’s comedy deal with Paramount, as well as executive roles at MTV Studios and VH1.

Madden said in a statement that Goldberg’s “expertise and understanding of storytelling and film culture have been a critical asset to the studio.”

In other executive promotions, Alessandra Ferreri has been upped to VP of content and Brennan Loftus to director of development, animation.

Ferreri has been with Wattpad since 2015, managing the studio’s IP strategy. She has been tasked with managing “the flow of webnovels and webcomics to entertainment, publishing and merchandising opportunities,” said the release. Ferreri reports to Ryan Philp, the studio’s SVP, operations.

Loftus will support creator relationships and identify writing talent. He will also help manage creative development for the studio’s animation slate, continuing to work on projects such as the Lore Olympus series with The Jim Henson Company as well as the Hawk series with Marvel Cinematic Universe screenwriter Christopher Yost. He reports to Sydney Bright, head of global animation.

Jess Brinder, who is based in Toronto, takes on an expanded role as director, head of entertainment business development. She will continue to manage international partnerships across Europe, Latin America and Southeast Asia.

The studio’s current film projects include Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment, Wattpad romance Chasing Red with Stampede Ventures, and the thriller What Happened That Night with Children of Men screenwriter David Arata.

Recent and upcoming releases include Float (Collective Pictures, Brightlight Pictures) and Boot Camp (Great Pacific Media).
