The Porter will make its U.S. broadcast debut in May via American Public Television.
The U.S. syndicator will make the series available across more than 20 stations for PBS Passport members, as well as on the PBS App, as of May 1.
The Porter (8 x 60 minutes) was created by Arnold Pinnock and Bruce Ramsay and produced by Sphere Media and Inferno Pictures. The series depicts the lead-up to the first Black union, and the Black railway workers that galvanized the movement. It ran for one season on CBC and on BET+ in the U.S., with Abacus Media Rights handling distribution.
TFO
Ontario pubcaster TFO has acquired PBS series Alma’s Way for broadcast in French Canada.
The deal was brokered by Toronto’s Sinking Ship Entertainment (SSE), which handles worldwide sales for the series. Alma’s Way was also acquired by France’s TF1 and Mexican children’s network Once Niñas y Niños.
Alma’s Way is produced by Fred Rogers Productions in association with Hamilton, Ont.-based Pipeline Studios, which handles the animation. The series follows a young Puerto Rican girl who is growing up in the Bronx.
Hollywood Suite
Hollywood Suite has picked up the ITV Studios series Mr Bates vs The Post Office and Until I Kill You.
The Canadian specialty channel holds the exclusive Canadian rights to the U.K. titles, according to a news release.
Mr Bates vs The Post Office is written by Gwyneth Hughes (Vanity Fair), and produced by ITV Studios and Little Gem Media. The four-part drama series revisits the British Post Office scandal, where hundreds of subpostmasters were wrongly convicted of theft due a software error. It will air on Hollywood Suite on May 28 and 29, and be available on Hollywood Suite On Demand on May 29.
Until I Kill You is a four-part series produced by ITV Studios’ World Productions, and is based on the true story of a woman who survived a relationship with a murderer. It will launch on Hollywood Suite On Demand on April 1, and will air starting April 18.
