Prime Video acquires Beacon 23 for Canada in multi-territory deal

Producer and distributor Boat Rocker has announced a raft of international sales for the sci-fi series.

Prime Video has acquired Boat Rocker’s scripted sci-fi thriller Beacon 23 for Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The deal was announced Wednesday (March 13) part of a raft of international sales for the 8 x 60-minute first season of the series, which debuted in the U.S. last November on MGM+.

Produced and distributed globally by Boat Rocker, the series has also found a home at Paramount+ and Channel 5’s My 5, in the U.K. and Ireland; PCCW Media Entertainment and NOWSTUDIO VOD in Hong Kong SAR and Macau; and Disney/Star in Bulgaria and The Balkans.

Based on the best-selling book by Hugh Howey, Beacon 23 takes place in the farthest reaches of the Milky Way and follows a government agent (played by Lena Headey) and a stoic ex-military man (Stephan James) as they find themselves trapped together inside a beacon that guides intergalactic travellers.

Season two of the series is set to premiere in the U.S. on April 7 on MGM+.

“We’re excited for new international audiences to experience the mystery and intrigue of Beacon 23 as a result of these distribution deals with leading global broadcasters and streamers,” said Jon Rutherford, president, global rights, franchise and content strategy, Boat Rocker Studios, in a statement.
