SODEC supports 20 features, shorts from emerging creatives

The selected projects will receive production funding under SODEC's emerging creation assistance program.

La Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) has selected 20 short and feature-length projects for production support under its emerging creation assistance program.

The supported projects include five documentary and narrative features and 15 short or medium-length titles, selected from a pool of 29 total submissions. Of the 20 chosen projects, 18 have previously received development support, according to SODEC.

Three of the five feature-length projects are documentaries: Back Home (Métafilms), written and directed by Marianne Métivier, with h264 attached to distribute; Couper le cordon (Productions Colorées), from filmmaker Émilie Porry, with Natyf TV distributing; and L’asile (Frangine), by director David Sanchez, with Spira distributing.

The two fiction features receiving support are Créatures du hasard (Les Films Cosmos), written and directed by Nadine Gomez, with h264 set to distribute; and Paquet de troubles (Pourquoi Productions), by Myriam Guimond, with K-Films Amérique distributing.

A total of 13 narrative short films are receiving support through the program. Of these, four have h264 attached as the distributor: Jupons (Ugo Media), from writer-director Gaëlle Graton; Le goût de tes écailles (Vlimeuses Productions), by Rafaël Beauchamp; Mardi matin (Ô Films), by Jean-François Leblanc; and The Hive (Colonelle Films), by Clara Milo.

Another five shorts have distributors attached, with Trois-Rivières-based distributor Travelling handling two projects: Imichki (Les Films Cosmos), by writer-director Yza Nouiga; and Rudesse (Tak Films), by writer-director Jean-Martin Gagnon and co-writer Guillaume Harvey.

The other three shorts with distributors are Nous sans toi (Chasseurs Films), from writer-director Clara Prévost, with Spira attached to distribute; To boys my age (Objective 9), by Alexia Roc, with Filmoption International distributing; and Étrangers (Romeo & Fils), by Chedly Bouzouaia, with La Distributrice de films distributing.

The remaining four narrative shorts receiving production support are Aventure FM (Telescope Films), by Martin Pariseau; Exquisite Corpse (Lost&Kik Pictures), by Lorenzo Sterzi; The goats of Monsieur Séguin (Pimiento Médias), by writer Emma-Jeanne Robitaille and director Alexandre Pelletier; and Sirène (Voyelles Films), by Marilou Caravecchia-Pelletier.
