Télé-Québec has greenlit a new 2D-animated series called Guiby the Super Baby (15 x 7 minutes) from Quebec-based Epic Storyworlds.
The regional Canadian broadcaster will premiere a French-language version of the toon for seven- to 12-year-olds sometime in 2025. Epic also plans to release the episodes in English on YouTube, and it’s working on building a Roblox experience set in the fantasy world of the show.
The series follows the titular toddler and his friends on their nighttime monster hunts.
The series is an adaptation of a comic book collection created by French-Canadian children’s author/illustrator Sampar (real name Samuel Parent). Michel Quintin Editions published all six titles in the series for kids ages eight and up, the first of which came out in 2013.
The IP’s Quebec roots and scary edge were what appealed to Télé-Québec, Marysol Charbonneau, the broadcaster’s director of youth and family content, told Playback sister publication Kidscreen. Subsidiary Epic Story Distribution is handling worldwide sales, and Epic Storyworld is also exploring international coproduction deals to make additional episodes beyond this initial order.
The Canada Media Fund, Société de Développement des Entreprises Culturelles, Shaw Rocket Fund and the City of Quebec have all supported this project with funding.
