Netflix licenses local French, English series for Canada

The acquisitions include Saving Hope and Fugueuse, which will land on the streamer on Nov. 15.

Netflix Canada has acquired a raft of English- and French-language Canadian series to launch on the streamer between this month and spring 2024.

Among the first projects to premiere are CTV original Saving Hope (ICF Films, Entertainment One) and TVA’s Fugueuse, a.k.a. Runaway (Encore Television). All five seasons of Saving Hope and the first season of Fugueuse will premiere on Wednesday (Nov. 15).

The English-language titles coming to Netflix in 2023 and 2024 include seasons one to three of Transplant (Sphere Media) on Dec. 1, and seasons one to two of Children Ruin Everything (New Metric Media) on Dec. 19. Both series originated on CTV.

Meanwhile, Netflix will drop the first three seasons of CBC’s Mr. D (Topsail Entertainment) on Jan. 7, 2024, and seasons four to six on Feb. 7, 2024.

Club illico’s À propos d’Antoine (About Antoine), including its companion documentary Antoine Le Merveilleux (Amazing Antoine) – both produced by ComediHa! – will launch on Netflix in spring 2024.

Rounding out the acquisitions are the French-language Radio-Canada limited series Blanche (Cité Amérique), which will hit Netflix on Dec. 31; and seasons one to four of Attraction-produced TVA series Au secours de Béatrice (Saving Bea) on Jan. 15, 2024.

The licensing agreements were brokered by content acquisitions executive Sam Mackie under the direction of Danielle Woodrow, director of content at Netflix Canada.
