Crave greenlights comedy series My Dead Mom

The six-episode short-form series is now filming in Toronto and stars Lauren Collins as a woman haunted by her late mother, played by Megan Follows.

Crave has commissioned a new short-form comedy series from the team behind the Emmy-nominated web series How to Buy a Baby.

Filming is underway in Toronto on My Dead Mom, created by Wendy Litner and produced by Toronto’s LoCo Motion Pictures in association with Bell Media. Litner is an executive producer on the series alongside LoCo Motion president Lauren Corber.

Megan Follows (Anne of Green Gables) and Lauren Collins (Degrassi: The Next Generation) star in the ghostly six-episode comedy series, which follows a woman who is literally haunted by her mother three years after her death. Chandler Levack (I Like Movies) is attached to direct.

Joining Follows and Collins in the cast are Rainbow Sun Francks (I Woke Up a Vampire), David Reale (The Boys), Daniel Maslany (Murdoch Mysteries) and Daniel Kash (Slasher), with Matt Murray (In The Dark) set to guest star.

My Dead Mom is produced with the support of the Independent Production Fund, Ontario Creates and the Bell Fund. Blue Ant Media is handling international distribution.

Litner previously created How to Buy a Baby, which was produced by LoCo Motion and released in 2017 as a CBC digital original. The series went on to receive an International Emmy nomination for Best Short Form Series and global sales success.

“We’re excited to see Wendy and Lauren’s creative vision come to life in this comedic and witty series of shorts,” said Bell Media’s Carlyn Klebuc, general manager, original programming, in a statement. “With Levack directing, and acclaimed Canadian actors Follows and Collins starring, this series continues to build on Crave’s mandate of delivering unique and high-quality original content.”
