Prime Video unveils expanded Quebec content slate

The streamer has set two NHL documentaries and a reality show about Quebec influencer Elisabeth Rioux for release in 2024.

Prime Video has unveiled an expanded slate of Quebec-produced content, including a reality series about influencer Elisabeth Rioux, a Juste pour rire special and two new NHL documentaries.

The Amazon-owned streamer unveiled the new titles at the Prime Video Presents Quebec showcase event on Tuesday (Oct. 24), which included a mix of both English- and French-language content.

The unscripted slate includes two documentaries on professional hockey players, both directed by Jay Nelson and produced by NHL Productions.

Chosen One: Alexandre Daigle sees the former Ottawa Senators player and first-round draft pick reflecting on his ultimately underwhelming professional career. Saving Sakic (pictured), meanwhile, centres on Colorado Avalanche chairman and CEO Charlie Lyons’ race against time to match a $21 million offer from the New York Rangers in order to keep Avalanche superstar and captain Joe Sakic on the team.

Also set to premiere in 2024 is Elisabeth Rioux: Sans filtre, a French-language reality series that captures the life and work of the eponymous social media influencer and entrepreneur. First announced by Rioux in an Instagram post in March, the series is produced by Montreal’s Trio Orange in association with Amazon Studios.

Prime Video also announced the launch of its second collaboration with Juste pour rire TV, L’ultime gala. The special was filmed on July 20 at Juste pour rire Montreal, and features more than 30 Quebec comedians taking part in the festival’s final French-language comedy gala. The special was released Tuesday, on the same day of the presentation.

The showcase event also included previews of the upcoming scripted series Nuit Blanche (Pixcom) and The Sticky (Blumhouse Television, Megamix, Comet Pictures, Sphere Media), including a reveal of the latter series’ French-Canadian cast members. Guy Nadon, Suzanne Clément, Mickaël Gouin and Jean-François Provençal join The Sticky‘s previously announced cast of Margo Martindale, Chris Diamantopoulos and Guillaume Cyr, with producer Jamie Lee Curtis serving as a guest star.

“Our upcoming slate features a breadth of Quebec storytelling with a mix of French- and English-language content,” said Brent Haynes, Prime Video head of local originals, Canada, in a statement. “From Patrick Huard and France Castel to Guillaume Cyr and hockey legend Joe Sakic, we are extremely proud to showcase such a wide variety of Quebecois talent and help fulfill our goal of reflecting the depth of this culture to our customers.”
