Toronto- and Winnipeg-based Frantic Films has appointed Sally Karam as VP of development, marking her reunion with the company after serving as executive producer/supervising producer on its hit CBC sketch comedy series Baroness von Sketch Show.

The veteran film and television producer will be based in Toronto and oversee both scripted and unscripted development, according to a news release. She’ll report to CEO Jamie Brown and president Stephanie Fast.

Karam has more than 20 years of directing, story editing, writing and development experience. She earned a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Comedy Series for Baroness von Sketch Show in 2021.

Her other producing titles include feature films The End of Sex, Honey Bee and What We Have, as well as Hallmark Originals Northern Lights of Christmas and Christmas in Toyland, and MoWs Tiny Homes Christmas and Making Scents of Love.

On the unscripted side, Karam has produced titles including political comedy series Kal Penn Approves This Message (Freeform), Discovery Channel’s F2: Forensic Factor and Alien Mysteries, T+E’s Paranormal Survivor, and Paranormal 911 (T+E, Discovery TRVL).

Frantic Films recently wrapped shooting for the 2023 edition of The Winnipeg Comedy Festival for CBC, and is undergoing production on season nine of Still Standing for the public broadcaster. Frantic also recently announced greenlights of The Great Canadian Pottery Throw Down (CBC) and comedy series Don’t Even (Bell Media), in partnership with Pier 21 Films and Sekowan Media.

“Sally’s depth of knowledge, experience and success across so many genres makes her a great addition to the Frantic team as we expand production across unscripted and scripted markets,” said Fast in a statement.
