eOne expands distribution footprint

Entertainment One (eOne) continues to expand, this time adding Scandinavia and South Africa to its distribution roster.

The expanded reach is made possible by new flow-through relationships with local companies. In Scandinavia, eOne has partnered with AB Svensk Filmindustri, an established, 90-year old film company active in production, exhibition as well as theatrical, home video and television distribution. In South Africa, eOne’s new partner is Next Entertainment, a privately owned home entertainment distributor servicing the retail and rental markets.

eOne bulked up for the deal by acquiring rights to Teddy Chan’s Bodyguards and Assassins and Lemmy, a doc about Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. The distributor will roll out several films into Scandinavian in September, including Damage, staring Stone Cold Steve Austin, Death Warrior, British gangster film The Big I Am and David DeFalco’s Wrong Side. South Africa will see I Am and Wrong Side that month, as well as Universal Soldier: Regeneration, Dolan’s Cadillac and Give Em Hell Malone, which stars Thomas Jane of HBO’s Hung.

‘The addition of these two markets aligns with our ongoing expansion strategy that we began rolling out earlier this year,’ said Patrice Theroux, president, Filmed Entertainment at eOne. ‘Scandinavia broadens our existing footprint in Europe while South Africa extends the eOne brand to another country where English content is widely distributed and consumed.’

The company recently added Australia, France and New Zealand to its distribution roster.
