Super Channel heads to Crossroad Springs

The series is a co-commission with Great American Family and is currently filming in Ontario.

Super Channel and Great American Family have co-commissioned Crossroad Springs, from Newmarket, Ont.-based Brain Power Studio in association with L.A.’s Nicely Entertainment.

The series is set to premiere on Super Channel’s Heart and Home channel on Sept. 7.

Crossroad Springs (pictured) is produced by Brain Power’s Beth Stevenson, Nancy Yeaman and Jessica Reis. The series is directed by Barrie, Ont.-based Marco Deufemia and written by U.S. screenwriter Paula Tiberius. It began shooting May 5 in Barrie, Alliston, Ont. and the surrounding areas, with plans to wrap on July 4, a spokesperson for the series told Playback Daily.

The 6 x 60-minute drama follows a family on their ranch. Amid a generational feud with another family, one son decides to start a church.

The series stars a number of Canadians, including Sudbury, Ont.-born Emily Alatalo (Christmas in Maple Hills), Edmonton-born Shaun Johnston (Heartland), Woodstock, Ont.-born Kate Drummond (Wynonna Earp), Canadian-American Jesse Hutch (A Little Women’s Christmas), Ottawa-born Jon McLaren (When Hope Calls), Montreal-born Erin Agostino (The Jingle Bell Jubilee) and Scarborough, Ont.-born Franco Lo Presti (Bad Blood) as well as U.S. actor Jonathan Stoddard.

According to the spokesperson, the series was funded by provincial and federal tax credits, Great American Media and Super Channel license fees as well as an advance from Nicely Entertainment.

In the U.S., the series will be available to stream on Great American Pure Flix on Aug. 28, and will air on Great American Family beginning Aug. 31.

“This beautifully told drama fits perfectly alongside beloved series like When Hope Calls and When Calls the Heart,” said Super Channel president and CEO Don McDonald in a statement. “With its strong sense of place, emotional authenticity, and focus on family, faith and community, Crossroad Springs delivers the kind of uplifting storytelling our viewers connect with and continue to seek out.”
