CTV has ordered a ninth season of the hit travel competition series The Amazing Race Canada following a successful viewership average for season eight.
The Amazing Race Canada (pictured) season eight was the “top summer program and top Canadian program for the 2021-22 broadcast year, with a season average of 1.6 million viewers,” according to a news release, which cited Numeris data from July 4, 2022 to Sept. 25, 2022 as well as the broadcast year of 2021-22 (Aug. 30, 2021 – Aug. 28, 2022).
The show, in which teams compete in a variety of travel challenges, ranked at No. 1 on linear network and specialty channels numerous times throughout the summer.
The Amazing Race Canada is produced by Boat Rocker’s Insight Productions, in association with CTV. John Brunton serves as an executive producer alongside Mark Lysakowski, who is also the showrunner. The series is hosted by Olympic gold medallist Jon Montgomery.
Casting and customized integrated brand partnership opportunities are now available for season nine, said the release. Season eight, along with previous seasons of the series, is available to stream on CTV.ca, the CTV app, and Crave.
Insight Productions is known for the development, financing, and production of hit unscripted programming in Canada, including Big Brother Canada, Top Chef Canada, The Juno Awards, and The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration, among others. Its most recent credit, Cook At All Costs, will have its premiere on Netflix on Dec. 16. The prodco has also been expanding its slate into the scripted space, with Kari Hollend joining as a producer on the development team, working closely with VP of production Jessica Brunton.
