Sales exec Dan Selig joins Boat Rocker’s rights team

The former HBO and Fifth Season exec joins Boat Rocker as SVP, content sales.

Toronto-based media company Boat Rocker has hired Dan Selig as SVP, content sales on its rights team to bolster its distribution of scripted and documentary content.

The former exec at HBO and Fifth Season (formerly known as Endeavor Content) will be based in Boat Rocker’s New York office and report to Jon Rutherford, president of Boat Rocker Studios, rights.

Selig will play a key role in the integrated global entertainment company’s “sales strategy and distribution of its scripted and documentary content in the U.S. and Latin America,” according to a news release issued Monday (Oct. 17).

He joins Boat Rocker from Fifth Season, where he was SVP, sales, Americas, leading direct sales of the company’s programming to linear broadcasters and SVOD platforms based in the Americas. Selig was previously with HBO for over 15 years, most recently as SVP, international distribution.

Selig’s appointment comes as a slew of Boat Rocker scripted and documentary projects unfold in various stages of production with plans for global distribution by the company. They include the upcoming sci-fi thriller Beacon 23 for Spectrum/AMC, action-drama Robyn Hood for Corus, comedy Slip for Roku, sci-fi drama Orphan Black: Echoes for AMC, and feature documentary Le Bal: A Modern Debutante.

He brings “a deep understanding of the television landscape” to Boat Rocker, along with a wealth of experience “that will be an invaluable asset to lead U.S. and Latin America sales for Boat Rocker’s owned and acquired series and documentaries,” said Rutherford in a statement.

Selig said he looks “forward to helping propel further growth and harness opportunities to share compelling stories with U.S. and Latin American audiences.”
