Boat Rocker has partnered with New Zealand’s Great Southern Studios and U.K.-based Sinner Films to produce a six-part psychological thriller series.
The Ridge follows a woman fleeing addiction in Scotland, accepting a wedding invitation from her sister in New Zealand only to find that sister dead on arrival. The series was commissioned by BBC Scotland and Sky New Zealand.
Production will begin in January 2025 in New Zealand. The series will air on BBC Scotland and BBC iPlayer in the U.K. and Sky Open and Neon in New Zealand in 2025. Boat Rocker will distribute the series globally.
The deal was brokered by Erik Pack, Boat Rocker Studios SVP, global coproduction and Great Southern Studios CEO Cate Calver.
The Ridge is created by Nora Chassler and David Murdoch, and written by Murdoch, Chassler, Alan Campbell and Jess Sayer. The series’ executive producers include Boat Rocker’s Ivan Schneeberg (pictured right), David Fortier (pictured left), Jon Rutherford and Erik Pack.
The series has received funding from NZ On Air and the New Zealand Screen Production Rebate.
“We believe The Ridge holds wide global appeal and are delighted to expand our slate of international scripted coproductions with this compelling project,” said Rutherford, Boat Rocker’s president of global rights, content and strategy in a statement.
Boat Rocker is also overseeing international distribution on Subotica and Aquarius Films’ 8 x 30-minute Ireland/Australia coproduction Mixtape, as well as the 6 x 30-minute dramedy Video Nasty, a coproduction with Ireland’s Deadpan Pictures.
