Canadian filmmakers Linsey Stewart and Dane Clark have set their second directorial collaboration with the dramedy Suze.
The feature is directed and written by Stewart (Workin’ Moms) and Clark (Run the Burbs) and produced by Matt Code and Kristy Neville of Toronto’s Wildling Pictures. It marks their second feature following the 2014 comedy I Put a Hit on You.
Michaela Watkins (The Dropout) stars in the film and serves as an executive producer, while Natalie Urquhart and Julie Strifler are co-producers. Principal photography is now underway in Hamilton, Ont.
Charlie Gillespie (The Rest Of Us) co-stars with Watkins. The film follows a single mother who decides to take care of her daughter’s broken-hearted ex-boyfriend after she leaves for university.
Toronto’s levelFILM is the Canadian distributor with a release set for the summer of 2023.
levelFILM’s managing director, Dave Hudakoc, and head of distribution, John Bain said in a joint statement that Stewart and Clark have “imbued this charming odd couple with authenticity and vulnerability,” adding that “Michaela and Charlie are the perfect people to breathe life into these complicated characters.”
Watkins is represented by UTA, Haven Entertainment and Felker Toczek. Gillespie is represented by Vanderwerff Talent, Luber Roklin Entertainment, Atlas Artists, and Meyer & Downs.
