Blue Fox Entertainment Canada has signed an agreement to acquire Toronto-headquartered distributor Unobstructed View.
The deal will see Blue Fox’s newly launched Canadian division acquire the assets of Unobstructed View Inc. and its U.S. sister company Unobstructed View LLC in an expansion of its North American footprint, according to a news release. It was first announced by president David Hudakoc (pictured left) and EVP Ian Goggins (pictured right) during the American Film Market (AFM), which ended on Nov. 10.
Following a transition period, Unobstructed View founder and president Jonathan Gross will depart the business “to focus on the development of numerous production projects.”
Gross is represented by Lon Hall of law firm Hall Webber in the transaction.
Unobstructed View was founded in 1993 as Video Services Corp. after Gross acquired the assets of the VHS distributor Video Entertainment Corp. It was rebranded as Unobstructed View in 2016.
The distributor specializes in home entertainment, selling physical media such as DVDs and Blu-Ray, as well as streaming titles over VOD platforms. The company has distribution deals with the Criterion Collection, Kino Lorber, PBS and Arrow.
“In Unobstructed View, Jonathan has created a company that embodies the essence of strong partnerships, streamlined operations, and a highly skilled team — all driven by a genuine passion for entertainment.” said Hudakoc and Goggins in a joint statement, adding that the deal “solidifies the expansion of Blue Fox’s distribution network across theatrical, digital and physical media.”
Gross added: “I can’t think of a better team to come in that not only appreciates the work we have done, but will use their collective experience and expertise to take the business to the next level up, maybe two.”
Blue Fox Entertainment expanded its operations into Canada in August ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival. Among its first confirmed titles is the mockumentary Standing on the Shoulders of Kitties: The Bubbles and the Shitrockers Story, featuring the original characters from The Trailer Park Boys.
