Hot Sheet: House of the Dragon boosts Game of Thrones popularity

Netflix's Stranger Things sustained its lead on both the digital originals and overall TV demand charts in Canada.

HBO’s Game of Thrones cracked the top three on the overall TV demand chart ahead of the release of its prequel House of the Dragon on Aug. 21.

The global phenomenon rose from No. 6 last week to No. 3 on the list for the period of Aug. 8 to 14, according to Parrot Analytics. It was 25.03 times more in demand than the average series, although the ratings were slightly lower than the previous week’s 25.08.

Netflix’s Stranger Things continued to top both the digital originals and overall TV demand lists. It was 77.03 times more in demand, which is slightly lower than the previous week’s ratings of 80.37.

Other series in the top five digital originals list include Hulu and Disney+ series The Orville: New Horizons (23.47), which was second on the digital originals list and No. 5 on the overall TV demand chart — the same as last week. Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building (21.89) came in at No. 3 on the digital originals list, followed by Prime Video’s The Boys (19.53) at No. 4 and Disney+’s The Mandalorian (17.29) at No. 5.

AMC’s Better Call Saul (36.62) ranked at No. 2 on the overall TV demand list, while Breaking Bad (23.72) came in at No. 4.

Parrot Analytics calculates its Top 10 lists using Demand Expressions, which are shown by using a metric that demonstrates how much more in-demand the top series are than the average TV show (linear, pay TV, SVOD and AVOD) in Canada. For example, a difference of 1x represents the market average and 10x means a series is 10 times more in demand than the average TV show in this market.
