Luc Picard’s drama Confessions has had the largest theatrical opening for a Quebec feature in 2022, according to distributor Les Films Opale.
Produced by Christian Larouche, the drama earned more than $322,000 in the Canadian box office in the five days since its theatrical debut on July 20.
The film is directed by Picard, who also stars, and written by Sylvain Guy, based on the book Gallant: Confessions d’un tueur à gages by Éric Thibault and Félix Séguin, about one of Quebec’s most prolific contract killers.
Additional cast members include David La Haye, Sandrine Bisson, Éveline Gélinas, Dany Boudreault and Emmanuel Charest.
Confessions had its world premiere at the Whistler Film Festival in 2021, with Picard winning Best Director of a Borsos Competition Film.
The feature was produced by Christal Films. Financial support was provided by Telefilm, SODEC, the Harold Greenberg Fund, the Quebecor Fund and Les Films Opales, in addition to provincial and federal tax credits.
