Canada looks to delve deeper into digital distribution as Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) brings its video delivery service to English- and French-speaking users north of the U.S. border for the first time.
With more than 1,000 available titles, users can now purchase or rent movies and TV shows via PSN that can be piped directly to their PlayStation 3 (PS3) console or PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld devices.
Major film studios and distributors on-board for the Canuck launch include 20th Century Fox, Alliance Films, E1 Entertainment, MGM and NFB and are offering releases such as Alice in Wonderland, Shutter Island and The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
Cablenets and studios such as HBO, MTV Networks, NHL and Starz Digital Media are also providing titles for the launch. More content will be added each week, but TV programs currently available include Astonishing X-Men, Stanley Cup games, and seasons one and two of True Blood.
Content is available in HD or SD, with movie rentals beginning at $3.99, movie purchases from $9.99, and TV shows for purchase at $1.99 per episode. A limited time promo is also running in which customers can receive a complimentary download of Charlie’s Angels.
