Banijay acquires global format distribution rights to Wild Cooks

The culinary adventure reality series hails from Montreal-based Toast in collaboration with Quebecor Content.

Banijay has acquired the exclusive global format distribution rights to Wild Cooks (Chef de bois), a culinary adventure series from Montreal-based prodco Toast in collaboration with Quebecor Content.

Created for a French-Canadian audience by Toast, the reality series launched in August 2021 and has aired on TVA and Quebecor’s unscripted SVOD service Vrai, where a second season launches this week.

The series places 10 chefs in a competition of survival and cooking in the forests of Quebec. Participants are flown into an isolated camp in the woods, where they have to prepare gourmet dishes using surprising ingredients and an open flame in the hopes of taking home the grand prize.

Banijay says the format will become part of its catalogue, with the company globally representing the show, excluding French-Canada.

Carlotta Rossi Spencer, head of format acquisitions at Banijay, said in a statement that the company will use its creative know-how and expertise from MasterChef and Survivor to bring Wild Cooks to the international market. The series is also a way “to showcase sustainable food and amazing landscapes” with their content, she added.
