M agali Simard has landed her new gig as director of industry and community relations at Cinespace Studios.
Playback understands the Toronto-based role began this week and reports to Ashley Rice, who was appointed as president and co-managing partner last month.
Cinespace has also appointed Megan Guy, formerly VP, Pinewood Studios International, as head of client services and operations.
Simard most recently served as film sector development program manager with the City of Toronto, where she helped expand the city’s film industry with new business and new infrastructure. She departed the role earlier this month.
Before joining the City of Toronto in 2017, Magali was senior manager of theatrical programming and the Canada film curator at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she worked for more than a decade.
Guy worked with Pinewood Group, which operates studios in Toronto, London and Surrey in the U.K., and the Dominican Republic, for roughly a decade.
Cinespace was acquired by TPG Real Estate Partners in late 2021 with Eoin Egan named as COO and co-managing partner and Keith Gee as CFO and co-managing partner. The studio owner and operator was founded by the late Nick Mirkopolous in 1988.
