Sphere to open third location in Ottawa

The Montreal-based company plans to hire more than 100 staff for the new Ottawa office to take advantage of the local talent base.

Sphere is set to increase its production capacity with a new office in Ottawa following its recent company rebrand.

The company plans to open the new location on May 1 and hire more than 100 employees to take advantage of the local talent pool of animation workers and film crew. The Ottawa location will be Sphere’s third office, joining their bases in Montreal and Toronto.

“We chose Ottawa because the conditions are ideal and the capital is an important market which represents a new pool of qualified talent for Sphere,” said Sphere president and CEO Bruno Dubé (pictured) in a statement.

The media company has partnered with the Ottawa Film Office and Invest Ottawa to support the opening of the new location.

“Sphere’s local presence will strengthen the city’s position as an attractive centre for the creation of live-action and animated productions,” said Stephanie Davy, marketing and communications Officer at the Ottawa Film Office.

Sphere underwent a recent rebrand to focus on three divisions: Sphere Media, Sphere Animation and Sphere Films.

The company has greatly expanded in the last few years thanks to a number of key acquisitions, including scripted prodco Sienna Films, factual and kids producer BGM and Oasis Animation. It has acquired two additional companies in 2022, including animation company Sardine Productions, now part of Sphere Animation, and distributor MK2 | Mile End, which has now merged with sales agency WaZabi Films to become Sphere Films.
