Make that $40 million, not $4.8 million
I would appreciate an opportunity to share with your readers what I actually said at Banff regarding Bravo!’s Canadian content expenditure commitments.
As I explained during the Laurier LaPierre panel at the Banff Television Festival, Bravo! has committed to spend over $40 million on Canadian production over the course of its licence, not $4.8 million as suggested by Mr. LaPierre, and as erroneously repeated in your article (‘Specialty decision aftermath,’ June 20, p. 1).
The quotes attributed to me were made in reference to Canadian content percentages, which start at 40% and go up to 60% over the course of the licence. I said, ‘40% is not peanuts,’ and went on to explain that these percentages would allow Bravo! to showcase the best of performing and visual arts available from around the world, and not as an exclusive conduit for American production, as erroneously suggested elsewhere.
