The CW has acquired the U.S. rights to Global legal drama Family Law.

Produced by SEVEN24 Films and Lark Productions and created by Susin Nielsen, the series stars Jewel Staite as a disgraced lawyer and recovering alcoholic who must work with her estranged father, played by Victor Garber, at his family law firm to rehabilitate her legal reputation – all while working with half-siblings she has never met before.

Entertainment One (eOne) handles worldwide distribution for the series, which has now been sold to more than 150 territories around the globe, including Australia (Nine Network), Italy (Sky), Latin America (NBCUniversal), Brazil (Globo) and Norway (TV2). The U.S. premiere will be announced at a later date.

Season one of Family Law debuted on Global in fall 2021 and was viewed by more than 7.3 million Canadians, according to Numeris. Global renewed the legal drama for a second season ahead of its premiere.

The deal was brokered by Dan Loewy, EVP, sales, Americas and ANZ (Australia and New Zealand).

Executive producers on Family Law include SEVEN24’s Tom Cox and Jordy Randall and Lark’s Erin Haskett, as well as Andy Mikita.

Family Law is the latest in a number of Canadian acquisitions by The CW and the second distribution deal for eOne, following the sale of CBC drama Burden of Truth. Other Canadian titles to hit the CW include scripted series Coroner and Trickster, as well as unscripted series Fridge Wars and Great Chocolate Showdown.
