Proper TV promotes new development director

Brenda Myers developed multiple unscripted hits including Mary’s Kitchen Crush and Mary Makes It Easy as well as Proper’s first original series for Netflix, Motel Makeover.

Toronto-based factual producer Proper Television has upped Brenda Myers to director of development.

Myers, who joined Proper TV in 2014, and was promoted to development manager in 2016, is tasked with building the company’s slate of original productions and further expanding its network of broadcast partners in Canada and around the world.

Most recently, she has been working on a stable of international formats such as MasterChef Canada (CTV) and The Great Canadian Baking Show (CBC). She led the development of two-time Canadian Screen Award-winning Mary’s Kitchen Crush (CTV) and the follow-up Mary Makes It Easy (CTV Life Channel). She also stickhandled Proper’s first original series for Netflix, Motel Makeover; and the upcoming Lost Car Rescue (History), which follows a team of young car hunters as they travel by air and land to find and extricate classic cars abandoned in the Northern Canadian wilderness.

“Brenda’s strategic thinking, drive and dedication have made her an essential part of the Proper family for many years, and this new title reflects the importance of her contribution,” said Cathie James, co-president of Proper TV.

Myers began her career as a story producer and writer for several Canadian production companies. She worked across multiple unscripted genres including renovation, food and travel. Projects include Income Property (HGTV) and Candice Tells All (HGTV/W Network).

Proper TV was named 2021 Production Company of the Year by Playback Magazine. It is a division of Boat Rocker Media.
