Commercial Directions

spy Films is coming off a busy April, with 26 shoot days for the month. Director/dop Barry Parrell logged three days for Kellogg and Leo Burnett. Daniel Barber directed a campaign for Black Label out of bcp in Montreal.

Imported Artists Film Company’s Richard D’Alessio and dop Rene Ohashi racked up four days for Labatt’s Light through Ammirati and Puris. Bruce Copeman of Partners’ Post cut the assignment.

Martin Granger of Avion Film Productions scored a gig from Arrow Sheds and Doner Schur Peppler, with Stanley Mestel as cinematographer. Matthew Harris pulled double duty as director/dop on two days for Sprint and Grey, New York.

Radke Films director Wayne Gibson partnered up with dop John Houtman for a one-day Pizza Hut job on location in Vancouver. The assignment, which was posted by Flashcut Editing’s Chris Parkins, was through bbdo’s Toronto office.

At the Players Film Company, David McNally picked up five days directing for Finesse and DDB Needham. Calibre Digital Design handled the special effects and Bob Kennedy of Flashcut posted. Director Neil Williamson hooked up with dop Parrell for Flintstone Vitamins and Tatham Euro rscg. Calibre did the posting and effects. Williamson also landed another job for client Protecto and DDB Needham, Costa Rica.

Director Boris Damast of Damast Gordon and Associates worked a day for Haagen-Dazs and Partners and Shevack, with Peter Donahue shooting. Damast directed another two days for the Baltimore/Washington Airport out of Richardson, Myers and Donofrio. Bob Ganz picked up the dop credit and Third Floor Editing’s Richard Unruh posted.

Saatchi and Saatchi called on L.T.B. Productions’ Leroy Koetz to direct and shoot a spot for Tide, with Third Floor’s Alex Eaton handling post. Also at ltb, director David Hackl and l.a.-based dop John Paszkiewicz picked up a job in St. Louis for Bud Light and agency Schupp.

Circle Productions’ Fred Frame scored two days in Calgary for Co-Op Value Plus Card, with Ron Williams behind the lens. Image Brokers was the agency. Robert Turner directed an assignment for MacMillan Bloedel through Vancouver’s Dome Advertising. Williams took dop honors on the five-day shoot. Out of Robins Sharpe and Associates, Shin Sugino picked up a two-day director/dop job for Square One Shopping Mall.

At Apple Box Productions in Toronto, director/dop Stanley Larsen is working on the ‘Making Summer Happen in May’ campaign for Eaton’s. The four-day job will be shot in 11 locations in Vancouver.

Out of the Apple Box Edmonton office, Bobby Sheehan donned his director/dop cap for a day on a job for Moxie’s Restaurant through Ogilvy and Mather West, Calgary. Director Bob Keates and dop Richard Zyp joined forces for two days on three 30-second United Security spots for the Venture Group.

In Montreal, commercial action at S.W.A.T. Films includes a new 30 for M. Felix et Mr. Norton biscuits, in both French and English, directed by Podz with dop Richard Laniel on board. The shoot is from Groupaction. Jack Hackel directed two French 30s, a jvc promo for retailer Brault & Martineau and a 10th anniversary message for Cage aux Sports restaurants and agency Radar Communications.

Both spots were posted at Centre de montage electronique. dops were Bernard Fougeres and Daniel Villeneuve, respectively. Director Jim Donovan helmed the action on a General Motors’ Spring Event pool, posted at Buzz and assigned by Cossette.

Lots of action at La Fabrique d’Images, including a promo for Restaurants McDonald’s and Cossette from director Karim Waked and dop David Franco, and a very funny Bell Canada tele-response spot for Cossette featuring Monsieur B. transposed to a baby’s highchair from director Jean-Francois Pouliot and dop Steve Danyluk.

Waked and dop Bernard Fougere were the team on ‘Velo,’ a three-day shoot filmed on location in Utah and at Cite du Cinema for Excellence Sports and BCP Quebec.

The same duo were at a client location and the Verdun Aud for McDonald’s Hockeymania, while Pouliot and Danyluk teamed on a two-day ‘service appelle-moi’ shoot for Bell Canada and Cossette. AstralTech handled lab duties, Supersuite did the film-to-tape transfer and Buzz handled editing and post.

Director Michel Poulette and dop Allen Smith shot three days at Universal Studios in Florida with actress Macha Grenon for PNMD Publitel and Pharmaprix.

Still at La Fabrique, Jacques Fournier directed and David Franco was the dop on an evocative, high-tech seven-day shoot for Molson Dry and bcp featuring hackers leaping from office windows to an earthly paradise. Davis Goodman was the 3D producer on ‘Ordinateur/Computer.’ Daniel Lussier wrote the original music and Buzz, AstralTech and Supersuite shared post honors.

Christian Duguay directed and lit the action on the latest Bell Mobilite Liberti boards, ‘Requin’ and ‘Shark.’ The two-day shoot is out of Cossette with music by l’Oreille Cassee.

The latest pool in Bell’s ongoing ‘Temoignages’ (Testimony) campaign, also out of Cossette, was shot over three days by Poulette and dops Smith and Danyluk. Poulette and Smith also teamed on two new Listerine spots featuring comedian Daniel Lemire’s crazed Oncle Georges character for Warner Lambert and Blouin Coulombe Dube Thompson.

Pouliot and Smith were assigned two French 30s for Nestle’s Cappuccino and Espresso. The spots are out of Marketel and were posted at Hybride Technologies and AstralTech. cme and Supersuite shared transfer duties.

Francois Gingras and dop Smith shot two French 30s for Goodyear’s ’95 brand tire campaign out of agency Due North.

And director Gilles Kasprzak and dop Danyluk shot a one-day message called ‘Different’ for Johnson & Johnson’s o.b. out of agency Vice-versa.

At Jet Films, director Alastair Paton and dop Sylvain Brault shot a location 30 for Geo Metro and Cossette. The two-day shoot was posted at Supersuite.

Director Neil McGregor and dop Danyluk handled duties on a new Brasserie Labatt Wildcat spot out of Palm Publicite Marketing, and McGregor also got the call on Celtic/Celtique, a new micro-beer launch from Labatt. Both spots were edited at Hybride.

Jets’ Michel David directed a French/English 30 on location at a street-corner depanneur for the Loto-Quebec scratch-n-win ticket, Banco. The spots were posted at cme and are out of agency PNMD/Publitel.
