A fter pumping out rom-coms at a breakneck speed for the first eight months of the year, Incendo has gone into production on Be Mine, Valentine, its ninth and final rom-com of the year. Cameras began rolling today (Aug. 16) in Montreal.
Award-winning filmmaker Louise Archambault – whose credits include Gabrielle, which won best film at the Canadian Screen Awards in 2013, and more recently Il pleuvait des oiseaux (And The Birds Rained Down) and Merci pour tout (Thanks for Everything) – has been tapped to direct the project penned by award-winning Vancouver YA author and screenwriter Elizabeth Stewart.
Samantha Ellison is producing, with Jean Bureau and Ian Whitehead serving as executive producers.
The film stars Canadian actors Kaitlyn Leeb (Heartland, Degrassi: The Next Generation) and Brendon Zub (Batwoman, Blue Book) in a story about a woman who plans elaborate engagement proposals for a living.
Most recently, Incendo unveiled its first Canada-Australia treaty coproduction, made in partnership with Brisbane-based The Steve Jaggi Company. Love and Penguins went into production in Queensland last month.
Over the past year, the company has coproduced several features with Banijay-owned Screentime New Zealand – Written in the Stars, A Love Yarn and Love Knots – and produced a number of other rom-coms including Sweet as Maple Syrup, When Love Blooms and Farmer Seeking Love.
