Saloon Media’s History By The Numbers greenlit by CuriosityStream, Smithsonian

Production on the 20-part docuseries, which examines world history through surprising and awe-inspiring numerical facts, is now underway.

Saloon Media’s latest docuseries, History By The Numbers, has received the greenlight. The 20-part docuseries, which is produced in association with U.S.-based Jupiter Entertainment, takes a look at the world’s collective history through surprising and awe-inspiring numerical facts. Production is now underway.

The series is an original commission for streaming service CuriosityStream in the U.S. and select international territories. In Canada, the series will air on Blue Ant Media’s Smithsonian Channel Canada. Blue Ant International oversees international licensing outside of the commissioned territories.

In each of the “upbeat and fast-paced” episodes, History By The Numbers explores some of the world’s most iconic moments, from the growth of the global fast-food chain, to the wealth and bloodshed of the world’s top crime bosses, to how some of the richest people in the world spend their wealth. The stories vary, but they’re all linked through often overlooked numbers and stats that provide fresh context and perspectives.

Blue Ant acquired Saloon Media in October 2018.

“Working in association with Jupiter Entertainment enabled us to delve into the subject matter with our broadcast partners, CuriosityStream and Smithsonian Channel Canada, who are the perfect fit for this scale of factual content,” said Julie Chang, EVP of international co-productions in a release.

Chang and Jupiter Entertainment president Patrick Reardon serve as executive producers alongside Jupiter’s Ben Pagel. They’re joined by executive producer Michael Kot and series producer Steve Gamester. Noah Morowitz also oversees the series for CuriosityStream alongside Sam Linton, Blue Ant Media’s head of original content.
