Productivity Media, Darius Films roll on The Baker

Underway in the Cayman Islands, the action drama stars Ron Perlman, Harvey Keitel, Elias Koteas, Joel David Moore and Emma Ho.

Productivity Media and Darius Films have lined up all the ingredients they need for the duo’s second collaboration in the Cayman Islands, The Baker.

Directed by Jonathan Sobol, the action drama penned by Paolo Mancini and Thomas Michael follows a stoic man (played by Ron Perlman) living a monk-like existence in self-imposed exile. When his estranged son (Joel David Moore) is killed in a drug deal gone bad, he must look after a granddaughter (Emma Ho) he didn’t know he had and return to the life he’s tried to leave behind.

Earlier this year, the Canadian companies unveiled a three-picture production deal with the Cayman Islands Film Commission, the Cayman’s Ministry of International Trade, Investment, Aviation and Maritime Affairs, and Dart Enterprises.

Also starring Harvey Keitel and Elias Koteas, production is currently underway in the region and is expected to wrap at the end of May.

Notably, the first film from the agreement, dark comedy Blue Iguana is currently in post-production.

Written by Matthew Dressel and directed by Jeremy LaLonde, the film stars Joel David Moore, Bob Saget, Jason Jones, Carly Chaikin, Mary Lynn Rajskub and punk-rock icon Iggy Pop.

Alongside Productivity Media CEO William G. Santor and Darius Film’s Nicholas Tabarrok, The Baker is produced by Jason Jallet and Doug Murray.

John Hills and Andrew Chang-Sang are also credited as executive producers. The two previously executive produced Momentum Pictures’ Black Bear, Vertical Entertainment’s Four Good Days, Stockholm starring Ethan Hawke and Noomi Rapace, and Blue Iguana – which also sees Santor, Tabarrok and Jallet produce.

Radiant Films International handles the worldwide distribution rights to the project as well as Blue Iguana.

“The stars have aligned and we are delighted to be working with such a superb ensemble cast. The range, talent and worldwide appeal of Ron, Joel, Elias and Harvey as well as Emma, a fabulous new actress, is perfect for this elevated, high-concept story.  The Cayman Islands Government continues to be thorough and complete supporters and we are particularly happy to be in production on our second film on the Islands,” said Santor in a statement.
