Gia Milani to helm MCE, Rink Rat’s next feature

The project is based on Bridget Canning's debut novel The Greatest Hits of Wanda Jaynes.

M arina Cordoni Entertainment (MCE) and Rink Rat Productions are teeing up their next feature film, Wanda Woman, with Canadian director Gia Milani signing on to helm the project.

Based on Bridget Canning’s debut novel The Greatest Hits of Wanda Jaynes, the book is being adapted for film by Canning, with Rink Rat’s Mary Sexton (Maudie) and MCE’s Marina Cordoni (Fear the WorstAmerican Hangman) set to produce.

Developed with financial support from the Harold Greenberg Fund and CMF, Wanda Woman is a dark comedy about an idealistic teacher whose life is drastically changed when a gunman walks in and opens fire while she is in the grocery store. Cordoni optioned the rights to Canning’s novel in 2019.

Milani’s debut feature, All the Wrong Reasons, won the 2013 TIFF Discovery Award. Her executive producer credits include Owl River Runners (2015) and Queen of the Andes (2021).

California-based prodco Reynolds Entertainment, which inked a development and production deal with MCE four months ago, will serve as an executive producer on Wanda Woman.

Production on the project is slated to begin in St. John’s, NL in spring 2022 and post-production in Ontario.
