Big Brother Canada season nine confirmed for March kickoff

After the eighth installment was cut short due to the onset of the pandemic last March, the Insight Productions series goes live again on March 3.

A fter an eventful and pandemic-curtailed end to its eighth season, the Big Brother Canada house will reopen in early March for its ninth instalment.

Produced by Insight Productions, the series will premiere on Global on Wednesday, March 3 at 7 p.m., with Arisa Cox, who has been promoted to executive producer for season nine, returning as host.

As it has in previous years, the show will air three times a week, with this year’s schedule seeing the show broadcast on Mondays (9 p.m.), Wednesdays (7 p.m.) and Thursdays (8 p.m.).

Insight Productions has become somewhat of an expert at weathering pandemic-related challenges over the past 11 months. Last March, the production company was forced to end production on Big Brother Canada season eight, as the Canadian economy was closed due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the time, Insight pivoted by concluding the series with two finale episodes, which aired around two months prior to the season’s originally scheduled ending.

The initial lockdown also saw the cancellation of the Insight-produced Juno Awards just a few days before it was scheduled to air. Seven months later, in October, Insight temporarily halted production on Battle of the Blades after a member of the production crew tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the series premiere. A week later the show was given the all clear to continue.

In a first for Insight, casting for the latest season of Big Brother Canada was conducted virtually. It is produced by Insight Productions in association with Corus Entertainment and Banijay. Executive Producers are John Brunton, Erin Brock, Eric Abboud, Trevor Boris and Cox.
