Sci-fi drama The Order, produced by Calgary-based Nomadic Pictures, has been cancelled after two seasons at Netflix.
Creator and showrunner Dennis Heaton confirmed the news via Twitter: “For two seasons I was honored to work with an incredible cast and crew on The Order for @netflix. It is one of the best experiences of my career. Unfortunately, we aren’t returning, but I will always cherish the memories and the props I stole. Thank you all for watching.”
Initially greenlit in April 2018, The Order told the story of a college freshman who joins a secret society where he uncovers dark family secrets and a magical underworld. The 10-episode first season shot in Vancouver, with the series receiving a renewal in March 2019 and returning to film another 10 episodes in summer 2019. The Netflix original series streamed in all the territories where Netflix is available, including Canada.
In addition to Heaton, exec producers on the show included Shelley Eriksen, David Von Ancken and Nomadic’s Mike Frislev and Chad Oakes. Rachel Langer (Bletchley Circle: San Francisco and Ghost Wars) served as a co-executive producer on the show. It starred stars Jake Manley, Sarah Grey, Matt Frewer, Sam Trammell, Katharine Isabelle and Max Martini.
