UKTK and ITV have re-upped with Murdoch Mysteries, agreeing on Wednesday to co-fund a third season of the period crime drama from Shaftesbury Films.
Shooting on the third (13 x 60) season is currently underway in Toronto and in the U.K., reflecting a storyline that now bridges the Atlantic.
The deal hands exclusive multi-channel and non-linear broadcast rights to Alibi, the UKTV-owned crime channel, formerly known as U.K. Drama. The deal was negotiated on the British side by UKTV’s Alexandra Finlay and Noel Hedges of ITV Studios Global Entertainment, which will continue to distribute the series worldwide.
‘Coproducing Murdoch Mysteries has really paid off for us,’ said UKTV exec Christian Drobnyk. ‘Funding deals like this make a lot of sense for UKTV right now — they provide fresh, quality content that complements popular BBC titles and our own home-grown commissions — so it’s no surprise that we’re on the lookout to do more.’
Murdoch Mysteries is seen here on Citytv stations.
