Director Lea Pool will begin shooting the second phase of the feature length film Gabrielle Roy, a documentary, on July 8 in select Winnipeg and rural locations, for producers Buffalo Gal Pictures of Winnipeg and Les Productions de l’Impatiente of Montreal.
The film will chronicle the life and works of the internationally celebrated Canadian author, whose works include The Tin Flute and The Sorrow and the Enchantment.
To coincide with Pool’s stay in Winnipeg, the Winnipeg Film Group has arranged a retrospective of her work, including the feature film La Demoiselle Sauvage, and the American road journey Hotel Chronicles. The retrospective will take place June 28 and 29 at Cinematheque, and Pool will be in attendance on Saturday to make an introduction.
Gabrielle Roy is being shot simultaneously in French and English and is being produced with financial participation from the Manitoba Film & Sound Development Corporation, Telefilm Canada, and the Cable Production Fund. Broadcasters airing the doc who also contributed funding include CKY, CFCF, TV5, Tele-Quebec, and the Bravo! arts channel.
