Kim’s Convenience is back in business for another two seasons.

CBC’s renewal of the hit heartfelt comedy series for two 13-episode seasons was announced to fans during the cast’s live Facebook Q&A ahead of the season four finale yesterday (March 31) and shared on social media via the show’s various accounts and stars.

Based on the award-winning play by Ins Choi, who co-created the half-hour series with Kevin White, Kim’s Convenience from Vancouver-based Thunderbird Entertainment follows Korean-Canadian family, the Kim’s, and their downtown Toronto convenience store.

Produced by Ivan Fecan, the show stars Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Shoot The Messenger), Jean Yoon (Orphan Black), Simu Liu (Blood and Water), Andrea Bang (Camp Death III: The Final Summer), Andrew Phung (Adventures of a Pizza Guy) and Nicole Power (Anne of Green Gables). Fecan serves as an executive producer along with Choi, White and Alexandra Raffe. Sandra Cunningham is supervising producer on the series.

CBC spokespersons confirmed to Playback Daily that the show’s writers are currently working virtually and that no start of production date for the upcoming seasons has been set yet.

Kim’s Convenience was among the TV series nominated for this year’s Canadian Screen Awards (CSA), receiving eight nods in categories such as acting, costume design and Best Comedy Series. Following the news that 2020 CSAs would be cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Canadian Academy said it would postpone this year’s winners announcement.
