CBC

Public broadcaster CBC has acquired the Canadian broadcaster rights to U.K. comedy Brassic (pictured) from ITV Studios Global Entertainment. The 6 x 60-minute series, which airs on Sky in the U.K., follows working class friends whose money schemes start to catch up to them. Brassic has also been sold to Australian pubcaster ABC, New Zealand’s Rialto channel, French channel Canal+ and in Spain. The series was created by Misfit‘s Joe Gilgun and produced by Calamity Films.

Guru Studio

Guru Studio is hitting the books with its preschool series Pikwik Pack. The Toronto-based company signed a global agreement with Scholastic Publishing for the 52 x 11-minute show, which will see storybooks, novelty and activity books based on the animated series launch in 2021. Pikwik Pack was picked up by Disney Junior in 2018, and is set to hit screens in the US next year. Guru also inked a broadcast deal with U.S. streamer Hulu for the series, which stars a hedgehog, raccoon, cat and hippo running a parcel delivery service.

Wattpad

U.S. prodco Picturestart has optioned the film and TV rights to Wattpad’s Along for the Ride, written by Rachel Meinke. Picturestart will finance and develop an adaptation of the story from Sex Appeal scribe Tate Hanyok. Wattpad Studios will produce, with Aron Levitz, Eric Lehrman and Lindsey Ramey attached as producers. Wattpad holds the publishing rights to the story, with a novel set for the publisher’s spring/summer 2020 slate. Along for the Ride has amassed 26.3 million reads on Wattpad to date, and tells the story of a professional soccer player who is forced to go on tour with her famous pop star brother and discovers a connection with his band’s lead singer.
