+ CBS has followed CTV’s lead and renewed Flashpoint for another cycle. The latest vote of confidence for the Canadian cop drama sees CBS order 13 more episodes from Pink Sky Entertainment and Avamar Entertainment. In its second season on CBS, Flashpoint won its Friday night 9 p.m. slot, averaging 9.55 million viewers, or a 2.1/6 share in adults 18-49.
+ With a little help from BBM’s new Portable People Meters, the National Hockey League returned with a bang on CBC, where numbers soared for the first games of the 2009/10 season. The marquee match between the Toronto Maple Leafs and rival Montreal Canadiens kicked off Hockey Night in Canada coverage with a whopping 2.5 million viewers (2+).
+ Eight proposed series and specials are in development at SCN, which has pared down the contenders for its investment in producers from Saskatchewan. The titles include Absence of Self from Alta Nova Pictures and Survival of the Sickest from 11th Hour Films.
+ Breakthrough Films & Television has a green light from Teletoon to produce the new comedy series Crash Canyon. The Toronto production house will produce 13 half-hours with Joel Cohen, co-executive producer on The Simpsons, and series creator Jam Filled Entertainment in Ottawa. The series is expected to run during Teletoon’s teen-skewed primetime programming block.
