Great Big move into radio

Great Big Music is taking a leap into radio with the introduction of Great Big Radio.

The Toronto-based music house, which has been creating sounds for television commercials, tv and film for the last four years, has launched Great Big Radio to produce spots exclusively for that medium.

Great Big Music will focus on producing music, voice-overs and sound design, and according to producer Carl Lenox will be ‘proactive in conceptualizing.’

‘We want to create a synergistic atmosphere between Great Big Radio and the creative teams so we are more involved in the creation of the spots and therefore are more involved with the entire process,’ he says.

The main players behind the new entity are Tom Thorney, one of the original partners, and newcomer Jesse Shamata, who Lenox says will be the creative force at Big Radio.

The Great Big shop itself houses three studios including an all-digital compositing room, a main studio with a high-end ssl console for recording and mixing, and a new tapeless room, used mostly for audio post.

Great Big Music won the New York Festivals Silver for best original music with the retro sounds they created for the 7Up ‘Beach’ spot.
