*ABC to broadcast HDTV from Toronto

ABC Sports, along with Panasonic Broadcast & Television Systems, will broadcast the 2000 National Hockey League All-Star Game in hdtv live from Toronto, on Sunday, Feb. 6.

To make the broadcast possible, abc will use the Panasonic-built and outfitted 720P hdtv mobile production truck currently used for Monday Night Football and the upcoming Super Bowl xxxiv.

CTV News anchor Avery Haines has been fired for inadvertently making offensive remarks, on-air.

‘The nature of her comments did not leave CTV News with any alternative, says Henry Kowalski,’ senior vp of news at ctv.

The remarks, for which she has apologized twice on-air, were made after she stumbled verbally when introducing a report on aid to farmers in a Saturday morning newscast. Not realizing the camera was still running, she called herself the network’s stuttering news reader then expanded her remarks to include blacks, women, lesbians and the disabled.

An investigation into the incident is continuing.
