Prior to its world debut at the Whistler Film Festival tomorrow (Nov. 30), Northern Banner Releasing has acquired writer/director Jaren Hayman’s documentary This Is North Preston.

The feature tells the story of North Preston, N.S., the largest African Canadian community in Canada and its past with generations of violence, economic struggle and systemic racism. This Is North Preston is Hayman’s second documentary following Bodyguards: Secret Lives from the Watchtower, which was released globally by Netflix in 2017.

Raven Banner Entertainment’s specialty distribution arm has slated the doc for a spring 2019 limited theatrical release in Canada. Meanwhile, This Is North Preston will also be distributed digitally in the U.S. in the new year by New York-based distributor Virgil Films & Entertainment.

Producers on the film include Brad Keast, Mike Bean, Sarit Chandaria, Steve Cameron and Steve Keyzer. Noorez Lalani is an exec producer on the project.
