The 25th annual Toronto International Film Festival will spotlight several premieres at gala presentations over its Sept. 7-16 run.
Katherine Bigelow’s The Weight of Water is featured at a gala marking its world premiere. The Sean Penn, Sarah Polley flick is distributed in Canada through TVA International.
TLN Television Network is sponsoring a gala in honor of the North American premiere of Bread and Tulips. Directed by Silvio Soldini, the Italian-Swiss coproduction stars Licia Maglietta and Antonio Cantania. Lions Gate Films distributes.
In the Mood For Love, a film by Wong Kar-wai, will also get the gala treatment for its North American Premiere at this year’s festival. Seville Pictures distributes in Canada.
Also, Robert Altman’s latest feature, Dr. T and The Women, starring Richard Gere and Helen Hunt (among other big names), will also have a glittering evening screening. The Dr. T gala is sponsored by Blake, Cassels and Graydon and the film’s distrib is Odeon Films.
Galas take place at Roy Thomson Hall. *
