The Canadian Film Centre (CFC) has revealed the six writers set to take part in its 2018 Bell Media Prime Time TV program, including Michael Rinaldi, who co-wrote the play Toothpaste and Cigars which was adapted into the 2013 rom-com The F Word.
Presented in association with ABC Signature Studios, the program, which offers up-and-coming creatives the opportunity to gain experience working in a TV room, begins Sept. 24 and runs until March 2019.
Joining Rinaldi is playwright, actor, writer and producer Sophia Fabiilli. She co-created comedic horror web series Fatal Murder with Michelle Alexander, which is currently in development with Shaftesbury.
Jessica Meya, the writer and co-founder of the diversity initiative Working the Scene in Colour, and the 2018 recipient of the Toronto Screenwriting Conference’s Breakthrough Artist Award, will also join the program.
Other participants include writer Mackenzie Sinclair; writer/director and co-founder of the creative studio, Cereal Made, Heather Taylor; and writer Veronika Paz, who recently picked up the Conference’s 2018 Al Magee Diverse Screenwriters Award.
In August, the Centre named writer/producer Alexandra Zarowny as its new exec producer in residence for the program.
An alum of the program, Zarowny’s writing credits include series such as Degrassi: The Next Generation, Wynonna Earp, Murdoch Mysteries and Bellevue. She is also an exec producer on Private Eyes. Previous program leaders include WGC president Dennis Heaton, Snowpiercer showrunner Graeme Manson, Orphan Black writer Karen Walton and Stargate SG-1 co-creator Brad Wright, among others.
