Mary Bredin to exit Guru Studio

The EVP of content and strategy at the Toronto children's entertainment company is leaving to pursue work as a consultant.

mary bredinMary Bredin is stepping down from her role as EVP of content and strategy at Toronto’s Guru Studio.

Bredin joined Guru in 2007 and was responsible for finding, developing and financing new content for the children’s entertainment company. She helped lead Guru’s expansion into original content with shows like Justin Time, Dinopaws and True and the Rainbow Kingdom. 

A release announcing the management change said Bredin is leaving to work as an IP development and story consultant. She’ll depart at the end of April.

“For over 10 years, Mary has been an instrumental part of the growth of the studio,” said Frank Falcone, president and executive creative director at Guru Studio, in a release. “Mary has been a tireless champion of diverse perspectives, of unique voices and most of all, of heartfelt quality creative. We wish her well in her future endeavors as Guru continues onto its next stage of growth.”

Prior to joining Guru, Bredin served as director of acquisitions at Viasat. She previously spent eight years at the Disney Channels in London, U.K. as director of programming and acquisitions for the Worldwide Programming Strategy group. Throughout her career, she’s held a variety of production, business and legal affairs jobs, working with companies such as Nelvana and Canal+.

Bredin’s exit follows the expansion of Guru’s senior management team, which recently added ex-Disney exec Kara Lord Piersimoni as VP of production, former Portfolio international sales director Jonathan Abraham as senior director of sales, and ex-Spin Master global brand manager Daniel Rattner as senior director of marketing.
