Flashpoint co-executive producer Bill Mustos is optimistic about the future of the Canuck action series on CBS’ schedule, despite news that the U.S. network will debut a new medical drama from Jerry Bruckheimer in the spring.
Mustos tells Playback Daily he received a phone call from CBS informing him about the plans to add Miami Medical to the Friday 10 p.m. timeslot when drama Numb3rs‘ season ends. Flashpoint was to return to the Friday slot beginning April 2.
‘We were also told that CBS is very much planning on scheduling Flashpoint…and are considering either a summer run, or holding us to the fall,’ says Mustos, who co-exec produces with Anne Marie La Traverse through their respective Toronto prodcos Avamar Entertainment and Pink Sky Entertainment.
Some media reports on Monday suggested that CBS is no longer planning on running Flashpoint, which Mustos dismisses.
‘[CBS] made a point of letting us know that they’re feeling very positively about the show,’ he adds.
CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler announced the network’s lineup at the TV Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, CA last weekend, admitting CBS had ‘more content than we had real estate for.’ Also missing from the lineup was CTV crime drama The Bridge, which CBS picked up early last year.
Flashpoint is a consistent top 20 hit for CTV without the benefit of a CBS simulcast — averaging 1.7 million viewers (2+) this past fall. Production on its third season for the broadcaster gets underway on Wednesday.
